Check out some photos from the Game of Skate competition that went down last Saturday at the Kumba Skate Plaza. Over 30 skaters tried their luck in a head-to-head, single-elimination bracket-style flatground competition. Only 3 would make it to the finals and leave with some rad prizes, but fun was had by all. Scroll down to see who came out on top.
Another crowded Saturday at the plaza. Crowd control during competitions can sometimes be a struggle, but luckily we got through the game of skate hassle-free.
Olivia halfcabs for the ladies.
The ladies, Boipelo, Natalie, and Olivia, battled it out in the first round. Olivia came out on top and got an extra R100 on top of it!
Kitso, Jino, Stache, and Jaydan waiting for their games.
Alec, pop shuvit.
Anthony, kickflip.
Enrique helps Damian with his judging duties.
Stache and Mosako roshambo.
Blaze, fakie heel.
Wishing a speedy recovery to these two gimps. Warrick (left) was just released from the hospital with a severe ankle sprain and Chris (right), who was also recently let go from the hospital, luckily surviving a rather serious head injury. Skateboarding is no joke! Get well soon, dudes.
Theo went up against Jino in round 1. Great game, but Theo prevailed as expected.
Doods.
Whether you hate it or love it, stanky leg back foot steeze or “yo flip” have become a fixture in modern pop shuvits and tre flips. Craig stanks out a pop shuv.
Theo, halfcab flip.
Theo’s games always pull a crowd. This quarter-finals game against Appels was no exception.
Moustache, fakie flip.
This semifinals game between Jaydan, Craig, and Theo could have easily been a finals game. The brackets placed them together in the semis and they definitely put on a show.
Another amazing finals. Here Alec switch fs shuvs his way into 2nd place.
Check out the Game of Skate winners (left to right) Enrique Ortell (3rd), Theo Setsetse (1st), and Alec Balie (2nd).
On Sunday we took some of the Kimberley locals and Kumba Skate Plaza avid volunteers for December-January to check out De Aar skatepark. The guys were hyped!
Be on the lookout for video and photo coverage on the De Aar skatepark session this Wednesday! Thanks to Werner, Marnes, and all the De Aar locals for showing us a good time!
