KDC Grand Slam Durban Regional Qualifiers 2015 Recap

The 3rd and final KDC Grand Slam Regional Qualifiers series went down on 27-28 June 2015 at DBN X FST in Durban and welcomed over 100 skaters throughout the course of the weekend.

Bikinis, surfing, and a great view graced the backdrop of our beachside setup at Bay of Plenty Beach throughout the course of the weekend. The weather wasn’t 100% in our favor on Saturday, and as a result, the remainder of the contest was set to finish the following day which yielded a perfect forecast.

Always good to see some familiar faces in the house. Durban rippers GVB, Kalvin McMillan, and Braxton Haine, to name a few, were in the house holding it down for their home town.

With big money on the line, a few casualties were sure to ensue. Good vibes to the guys that were sent to the ER after a foot and shoulder injury (sorry guys, forget your names).

In the end, Alan Marola took out Khule Ngubane in the head to head match in the finals for the R15k cash. Jamie De Villiers took the win for TopGrom and the Durban Dirtbags earned a spot in the Rider Cup Championships this October.

Thanks to all of our sponsors and partners who made the event possible and contributed to another great KDC Grand Slam stop: Vans, Kumba Iron Ore, Northern Cape Tourism, Red Bull, Top Grom, World Skateboarding Grand Prix, Aquavita, Old School Productions, and Pragmatics.

There are still a few more opportunities for SA skaters to qualify for TopGrom and KDC SA Champs this October 7-10 in Kimberley. Head to our website to see the remaining Skateboarding for Hope Presented by Vans dates to find the next stop closest to you.
