Kumba Skate Plaza Weekend Update: Pushing On Into The New Year

Every weekend at the Kumba Skate Plaza, we’re holding skate lessons, competitions, and other activities for the youth of Kimberley, South Africa. We’re stoked to get back into the groove of things for 2016 and welcome more friendly faces into the skatepark and inspiring the children of the area.

This past weekend was full of skate clinics. We held the Vert Fridays Mini Ramp clinic on Friday, the Girls Skate Session skate clinic on Saturday, and our weekly Skate Lesson Sundays program to end off the weekend.

Aside from our scheduled program, the most eventful things usually happen off the clock, during a regular session. Notably we’re Damian Bramley’s slam (ouch) on the A-Frame rail and the heated session that went down on the 5 stair rail between young guns Siphiwe Kheswa, Brad Balie, and MJ Seleoane. We’ve got the video clips below for proof of each.

Scroll down to see what went down last weekend at the Kumba Skate Plaza.

A Saturday afternoon #kumbaskateplaza sesh goes awry for local ripper Damian Bramley as his luck takes a turn for the worse on this fakie lipslide attempt. Fortunately he was up and skating moments later, only with a few scars and swollen fingers as battle scars.#kdcskate #slam #bail #fail #skateboarding #eina

The weekend popped off with our Vert Fridays skate clinic. This week we stuck to the mini ramp.

Saturday was a hot one, but a small group of girls ended up walking all the way from Galeshewe just to participate in the Girls Skate Session. Erwin supervises a roll in for a young lady during her first visit to the Kumba Skate Plaza.

Local gal Natalie Bramley was around for the weekend and didn’t hesitate to get involved with the clinic. Natalie placed 3rd in last year’s KDC SA Women’s Street contest and kills it on a skateboard!

Thumbs up for women’s skateboarding! Always good to see some new faces and fresh interest in skateboarding from our local ladies. Thanks Natalie for helping out and inspiring a new generation!

More skate lessons at the Kumba Skate Plaza. We do free skate lessons every Sunday for the community, and despite the heat, a few kids came out to learn a few things.

This week we had an ollie workshop. Small, but notable progress from the kids.
